Description

  • Administer service contracts and serve as the primary field point of contact for contractors, planting crews, site preparation crews, government natural resources personnel, forestry agencies, and conservation organizations.
  • Lead field supervision of silvicultural activities and coordinate work with contracted forestry consultants and service providers.
  • Oversee forest service provider contracting and contribute to contractor selection, coordination, and performance management.
  • Help develop and execute planting project designs in collaboration with internal supply chain and land origination teams.
  • Contribute to a playbook to scale forest project implementation to tens of thousands of acres.
  • Prepare reports including project progress updates, cost analyses, and impact assessments for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Travel regularly to project sites for due diligence, site preparation, planting seasons, and ongoing forest monitoring.
  • Engage external partners (federal, state and local natural resources departments, forestry agencies, conservation organizations) to build strategic alliances and maximize project impact.
  • Operate within project budgets, timelines, and resources while prioritizing speed, agility, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in forestry, natural resource management, or a related curriculum.
  • Field-ready candidate based in the Appalachian Region of the US with the ability to travel regularly to project sites.
  • Basic understanding of forest establishment using mechanical and chemical site preparation methods.
  • Knowledge of Appalachian hardwood and conifer tree identification and physiology.
  • Proficiency with GIS/GPS functionality and spreadsheet creation and manipulation.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with demonstrated ability to manage contractors and build external partnerships.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to execute and monitor projects, manage resources, and meet timelines and budgets.
  • Ability to work remotely, take initiative, adapt in a fast-changing early-stage company, and build internal and external working relationships.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with data analysis, interpreting scientific research, GIS data, and remote sensing to inform decisions.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with forestry software and tools such as forest inventory systems, growth and yield modeling, and drone operation.
