Description

  • Architect, implement, and maintain scientific computing libraries used in mineral exploration analyses.
  • Integrate third-party and domain-specific tools into repeatable data pipelines and workflows.
  • Build tooling for rapid prototyping, experimentation, evaluation, simulation, and scalable ML pipelines.
  • Debug issues across binaries, undocumented formats, external code, and deployed instrumentation.
  • Write robust, testable, and composable code and coach others in engineering best practices.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, geoscientists, and engineers to design the scientific computing stack.
  • Travel occasionally to exploration sites to observe products and inform new technology design.
  • Help organize models and outputs for repeatability and discoverability.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience as a software engineer, data scientist, or ML engineer; closer to 10 years is common for strong candidates.
  • Experience across many distinct technical problem types.
  • Track record of building production-quality data processing solutions or tooling that delivered business value.
  • Proficiency with machine learning concepts, including statistical, traditional, and deep learning approaches.
  • Strong Python proficiency, ideally including xarray and numpy.
  • Experience working with physical-world data such as measurements, imagery, scientific instrument output, or geophysical data.
  • Experience visualizing scientific data for domain experts.
  • Hands-on history with hardware, flight, space, lab instrumentation, or field-deployed systems.
  • Ability to work with limited, disparate, and noisy data sources in a complex geology/mineral exploration domain.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to take ownership of large projects and independently prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Open to occasional travel to exploration sites around the world, approximately twice per year.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
  • Experience with experimentation, simulation, or ML pipeline tooling is a plus.
  • Familiarity with working directly with geologists or in field settings is a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive US base salary of $170,000 - $215,000.
  • Remote work anywhere in the United States or Canada.
  • Full-time exempt position.
