Description

  • Take hardware and mechanisms from conceptual design through qualification to on-orbit operations to support internal and external customer needs.
  • Lead design reviews from kickoff through qualification and beyond.
  • Drive hardware development through hands-on testing, analysis correlation, and iterative design improvements.
  • Perform hardware trades that inform subsystem and top-level product direction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements, company processes, and hardware design and manufacturing best practices.
  • Own and refine system deliverables and development schedules throughout development and production.
  • Define mechanism requirements, trade architectures, and build initial prototypes in the first six months.
  • Perform preliminary and detailed analysis, define development test campaigns, and select purchased components.
  • Validate designs through prototype iterations and rigorous test campaigns, then build and qualify flight hardware.
  • Support operations, production, and integration teams as hardware is flown in space and scaled into production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical and/or electromechanical design and analysis.
  • Experience with CAD or FEA software packages.
  • Experience designing, building, and testing moving mechanical assemblies for aerospace applications, such as satellite mechanisms, payloads, launch vehicles, propulsion systems, or aircraft structures (preferred).
  • Experience with NASA-STD-5017, SMC-S-016, and GSFC-STD-7000 for design and qualification of in-space moving mechanism assemblies (preferred).
  • Experience with kinematic synthesis, electromechanical actuation, mechatronics, and instrumentation (preferred).
  • Experience with bearing analysis, preload techniques, and preload measurement (preferred).
  • Experience applying GD&T in practice (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to own moving mechanism assemblies across the full product lifecycle in a high-velocity environment (preferred).
  • Independent, self-motivated mindset with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills across disciplines (preferred).
