Description

  • Develop communications plans and approaches for enterprise projects, programs, and initiatives.
  • Partner with stakeholders and subject-matter experts to identify needs and recommend communication strategies.
  • Write and edit clear, engaging content for employee, leadership, corporate, and external communications.
  • Translate complex business information into audience-focused messaging across leaders, channels, and formats.
  • Manage communications projects from planning through delivery, including timelines, approvals, dependencies, and competing priorities.
  • Coordinate communications calendars, channels, internal partners, and vendors.
  • Use performance insights, reporting, and dashboards to evaluate effectiveness and improve communications.
  • Ensure communications align with Horace Mann’s brand, culture, enterprise messaging, and reputation priorities.
  • Support external communications, proactive storytelling, media relations, and thought-leadership initiatives.
  • Identify communication risks and recommend solutions while maintaining accuracy, quality, and timely execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Progressive communications experience with increasing independent responsibility.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, including the ability to simplify complex information.
  • Experience developing employee, enterprise, leadership, or corporate communications.
  • Strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and independent accountability.
  • Ability to adapt communications for different audiences, leaders, channels, and business needs.
  • Experience with communications platforms, technology, measurement tools, or channel management.
  • Knowledge of brand awareness, reputation management, communications measurement, and insights.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $66,500–$92,000, plus bonus.
  • Compensation is based on experience and location.
