Description

  • Provide practical legal advice to stakeholders and/or clients on commercial and operational matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents such as commercial agreements, NDAs, supplier terms, and service agreements.
  • Manage and progress matters across areas aligned to experience, including corporate, commercial, employment, regulatory, disputes, property, procurement, compliance, privacy, and governance.
  • Support dispute resolution activity, including pre‑action strategy, liaison with external counsel, and case management.
  • Contribute to compliance programmes and internal policies, including monitoring regulatory changes and implementing controls.
  • Perform risk assessments and recommend measures to reduce legal and commercial exposure.
  • Maintain accurate records, matter documentation, and reporting in line with confidentiality and data protection expectations.
  • Partner with internal teams (e.g., HR, Finance, Procurement, Sales, Operations) to improve legal processes and decision-making.
  • Support process improvement initiatives such as contract playbooks, clause libraries, workflow automation, and template governance.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and promote consistent quality standards across the legal function.

Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or Scotland/Northern Ireland as relevant) for solicitor roles where applicable.
  • Relevant professional qualification and practice experience for barrister or advocate pathways where applicable.
  • For legal operations, contracts, compliance, or specialist roles: relevant degree and substantial sector experience (legal qualification beneficial but not always essential).
  • Typically 5–12+ years of progressive legal experience in in‑house and/or private practice, suited to mid–senior level scope.
  • Demonstrated capability in one or more areas such as commercial contracts, corporate governance, employment, disputes, regulatory, compliance, privacy, property, or legal operations.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, stakeholder management, and risk‑based decision‑making skills.
  • Familiarity with legal systems and tools where relevant, such as document management systems, matter management, e‑billing, CLM platforms, and Microsoft 365.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non‑legal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities confidentially and professionally.
