Description

  • Design and implement domain services in Go, including protobuf contracts and ConnectRPC handlers.
  • Take services from ADR to production behind feature flags.
  • Build ledger and accounting workflows that post commerce events in real time.
  • Develop chart-of-accounts translation and journal APIs for external systems.
  • Work on payments infrastructure, including provider integrations and idempotency/replay handling.
  • Build and maintain document rendering and cross-runtime templating systems.
  • Create developer tooling and MCP support, including code generators and governance annotations.
  • Write ADRs, review designs, and own on-call responsibilities for shipped work.
  • Design, build, instrument, and ship a substantial platform charter end to end.

Requirements

  • Completed a term in a recognized open source mentorship or contribution program with merged and reviewed work in a real project.
  • Working fluency in Go, or demonstrated depth in another systems language with evidence of fast learning.
  • Comfort with distributed systems fundamentals, including idempotency, retries, and consistency models.
  • Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes, including debugging pod startup issues.
  • Ability to write clear design docs, issue threads, and commit messages.
  • Graduation timeline that allows a full-time conversion at the end of the apprenticeship.
  • Sustained contribution to a single project across many months is strongly preferred.
  • Public review threads showing thoughtful technical debate and openness to changing your mind are preferred.
  • Experience building systems involving money, correctness invariants, or multi-tenant isolation is preferred.
  • Conference talks, blog posts, or upstream spec proposals such as SEPs, KEPs, or RFCs are preferred.
  • Curiosity about the business problem behind the ticket is preferred.
