Description

  • Lead the data team’s efforts to improve recommendation and search algorithms, with a focus on inventory relevance and quality.
  • Develop proprietary AI and machine learning solutions tailored to Grailed’s peer-to-peer marketplace and one-of-one listings.
  • Identify business problems that can be solved with data and take ideas from proposal through alignment and execution.
  • Establish best practices for training, development, testing, and maintenance of data models, including A/B testing and stakeholder communication.
  • Own deployment of trained models into production with Data and ML Engineers, including reliable execution in Snowflake and integration with existing pipelines.
  • Maintain version control of code and configurations using Git.
  • Mine user data to identify personalization opportunities and define and track related KPIs.
  • Build and maintain Snowflake data models to support analytics, reporting, and business insights.
  • Use Python to develop machine learning models and structure output into consumable data flows.
  • Develop user-to-user mapping capabilities and apply search technologies to improve product discovery and personalization.
  • Analyze message content to detect potentially fraudulent activity such as scams, off-platform transaction requests, and phishing attempts.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, designers, marketing, and business stakeholders on data-driven solutions.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in a data or quantitative role, with success in a startup, high-growth, or fast-paced environment.
  • Graduate degree in data science, analytics, mathematics, machine learning, computer science, or a related field is a plus.
  • Strong analytical experience in a product or business setting may substitute for formal advanced education.
  • Experience in marketplace, e-commerce, or fashion/retail domains is preferred.
  • Experience working in a web and mobile app product environment is preferred.
  • Marketing analytics experience is a bonus.
  • Demonstrated success communicating with nontechnical cross-functional partners and telling stories with data to audiences from C-suite to individual contributors.
  • History of mentoring or developing teammates.
  • Ongoing learning through certifications, open-source contributions, or personal projects is a plus.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL, Python, and complex mathematical concepts related to recommendation and personalization engines.
  • Proven expertise in advanced statistical modeling, causal inference, experiment/test design, and machine learning algorithms.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and model development.
  • Practical experience with vector databases and embeddings for user-to-user or user-to-item mapping, semantic search, or item similarity is preferred.
  • Experience with Snowflake for SQL and data warehousing is preferred.
  • Experience with DBT for modular, version-controlled data transformations is preferred.
  • Experience with Git for collaborative code development and review is preferred.
  • Experience with recommendation and personalization products at scale.
  • Experience building models for listing quality, item classification, and NLP on unstructured text.
  • Experience modeling time-series forecasts for market trends, seasonality, demand prediction, and related KPIs.
  • Experience with Looker, Amplitude, Fivetran, and AWS Lambdas is a plus.

  • Hiring range of $134,240 to $197,200 USD, with geographic pay tiers up to $197,200 USD depending on location.
