Description

  • Build and lead a new globally distributed engineering team and create an environment where people can do their best work.
  • Hire, onboard, and develop engineers who embody GitLab's values and standards for quality and ownership.
  • Partner with Product Management and cross-functional engineering teams to shape the roadmap and deliver against product commitments.
  • Make architectural decisions and provide technical guidance for the team's CD engine and platform work.
  • Foster engineering excellence across reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Champion the use of AI tools in daily workflows to improve efficiency, innovation, and impact.
  • Hold regular one-on-ones, provide continuous feedback, and support engineers' professional growth through coaching.
  • Track milestone progress, identify blockers early, and proactively address delivery risks.
  • Participate in the Incident Management on-call rotation to help meet GitLab.com availability targets.
  • Collaborate with adjacent teams across Verify, Runner, and Infrastructure in an async-first environment.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing high-performing engineering teams.
  • Hands-on technical credibility to provide architectural guidance and contribute to technical discussions.
  • Strong background in distributed systems and durable workflow execution, including state persistence and replay patterns.
  • Experience building or leading teams in release orchestration, deployment automation, or continuous delivery at scale.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes deployment patterns and GitOps workflows, including blue/green and canary deployments.
  • Experience with policy-based governance and event-driven architectures for reliable delivery systems.
  • Proven ability to build teams in early-stage contexts, including defining processes and hiring foundational members.
  • Strong cross-functional alignment and consensus-building skills in ambiguous or competing-priority environments.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a bias toward async, handbook-first practices and transparency.
  • Experience in remote-first, globally distributed organizations with high autonomy and high accountability.
