Description

  • Manage the security program calendar, including risk assessments, penetration tests, phishing simulations, and security awareness training.
  • Coordinate penetration testing and track remediation items from assessments, audits, and vendor reviews through closure.
  • Draft and maintain security policies, procedures, controls, and compliance documentation.
  • Lead vendor security assessments and Business Associate Agreement audits.
  • Monitor MDM, BYOD, and endpoint compliance with IT and managed service providers.
  • Lead day-to-day incident and breach response, escalating issues according to the response plan.
  • Support identity and access management improvements, including SSO and password manager implementation.
  • Prepare recurring board-level security and compliance reporting and maintain a forward-looking roadmap.
  • Evaluate and implement compliance automation platforms such as Drata or Vanta.
  • Help define AI security guardrails, including policies for handling PHI in AI tools.

Requirements

  • 3–6+ years of experience in security compliance, IT security, or GRC roles.
  • Direct experience with HIPAA Security Rule requirements, Security Risk Assessments, and vendor or BAA risk reviews.
  • Experience managing security calendars and coordinating remediation across multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience working with a fractional or contractor CISO, MSP, or external security advisor.
  • Ability to translate technical risk into clear reporting for leadership or board audiences.
  • Strong documentation and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote startup environment.
  • Experience preparing for or achieving SOC 2 or HITRUST certification preferred.
  • Familiarity with Drata, Vanta, MDM or endpoint tools, Google Workspace security controls, and password manager rollouts preferred.
  • Experience with AI governance and security considerations for tools handling PHI preferred.
