Description

  • Own the architecture and technical direction for the agent layer supporting Elastic's Streams model.
  • Design and improve a scalable architecture for data collection at the edge and in cloud processing.
  • Evaluate and implement technologies to improve system performance and capability.
  • Lead architectural reviews and decision-making discussions across the team.
  • Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and mentor engineers.
  • Collaborate with product management and stakeholders to gather requirements and prioritize features.
  • Coordinate cross-team execution, meetings, and planning to align efforts and manage dependencies.
  • Identify project risks and adjust plans as priorities or feedback change.
  • Produce design docs and architectural decision records that support consensus and long-term reference.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a technical lead or principal engineer on an agent, daemon, or systems-level software project at scale.
  • Experience managing distributed deployments, versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Deep knowledge of observability data collection, including metrics, logs, traces, and protocols such as OTLP, Prometheus Remote Write, and syslog.
  • Solid background in Go.
  • Experience designing management and control planes for distributed software, particularly protocol-driven approaches like OpAMP.
  • Track record of leading large, multi-team technical initiatives from ambiguous design space to shipped software.
  • Ability to move between projects and codebases and work across teams based on changing business priorities.
  • Strong written communication skills, including design docs and ADRs.
  • Bonus: Direct experience with Elastic Agent, Fleet, Beats, or OpenTelemetry collector internals.
  • Bonus: Experience with cross-platform testing across Linux, Windows, macOS, containers, and Kubernetes.

  • Typical starting salary range: $159,800-$252,800 USD.
  • Typical starting salary range in select locations: $191,900-$303,500 USD.
