Description

  • Own the architecture and technical direction for Elastic's agent layer within the Streams program.
  • Design a scalable architecture for the agent layer and evaluate new technologies to improve performance.
  • Review existing architecture and lead technical discussions to drive decisions and improvements.
  • Provide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, and set engineering quality standards for the team.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and align technical decisions with expectations.
  • Partner with product management to prioritize features based on stakeholder input.
  • Coordinate across teams to unblock execution and keep projects aligned with changing priorities.
  • Identify project risks and take action to mitigate them.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a technical lead or principal engineer on an agent, daemon, or systems-level software project at scale.
  • Experience managing distributed deployments, versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Deep knowledge of observability data collection, including metrics, logs, traces, and related protocols such as OTLP, Prometheus Remote Write, and syslog.
  • Solid background in Go.
  • Experience designing management and control planes for distributed software, especially protocol-driven approaches like OpAMP.
  • Track record of leading large, multi-team technical initiatives from ambiguous design space to shipped software.
  • Ability to move between projects and codebases and work with different teams based on changing business priorities.
  • Strong written communication skills, including writing design docs and ADRs.
  • Direct experience with Elastic Agent, Fleet, Beats, or OpenTelemetry collector internals (bonus).
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry collector configuration, OTLP transport, or upstream contribution (bonus).
  • Experience with cross-platform testing and developer productivity across Linux, Windows, macOS, containers, and Kubernetes (bonus).
  • Knowledge of pipeline execution models and processing languages such as Streamlang, Logstash, or Fluent (bonus).
  • Experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tooling for agent deployment (bonus).
  • Contributions to open source projects in the observability or agent ecosystem (bonus).
  • Comfort working async-first across a globally distributed team (bonus).

  • Base salary only, with no variable compensation component.
  • Typical starting salary range of €67,000 to €106,000 EUR.
