Description

  • Own the architecture and technical direction for Elastic's agent layer.
  • Design a scalable architecture for the agent layer and evaluate new technologies to improve performance.
  • Review existing architecture and lead architectural discussions to drive decisions.
  • Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and constructive feedback to team members.
  • Set engineering standards and model engineering best practices.
  • Engage stakeholders to gather requirements and align expectations.
  • Collaborate with product management to prioritize features.
  • Coordinate across teams, manage dependencies, and adjust plans as priorities change.
  • Identify project risks and take actions to mitigate them.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a technical lead or principal engineer on agent, daemon, or systems-level software at scale.
  • Experience managing distributed deployments, versioning, and backward compatibility.
  • Deep knowledge of observability data collection, including metrics, logs, traces, and protocols such as OTLP, Prometheus Remote Write, and syslog.
  • Solid background in Go.
  • Experience designing management and control planes for distributed software, especially protocol-driven approaches like OpAMP.
  • Track record of leading large, multi-team technical initiatives from ambiguous design space to shipped software.
  • Ability to move between projects, codebases, and teams based on changing business priorities.
  • Strong written communication skills, including producing design docs and ADRs.
  • Direct experience with Elastic Agent, Fleet, Beats, or OpenTelemetry collector internals (bonus).
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry collector configuration, OTLP transport, or upstream contribution (bonus).
  • Experience with cross-platform testing across Linux, Windows, macOS, containers, and Kubernetes (bonus).
  • Knowledge of pipeline execution models and processing languages such as Streamlang, Logstash, or Fluent (bonus).
  • Experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tools for agent deployment (bonus).
  • Contributions to open source projects in the observability or agent ecosystem (bonus).
  • Comfort working async-first across a globally distributed team (bonus).

  • Typical starting salary range: €102,700 to €162,500 EUR.
  • Base salary only; no variable compensation component.
