Description

  • Manage 6–12 engineers across one or two teams and own the full management lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, career development, and performance management.
  • Own delivery health across active work by tracking project status, identifying blockers, removing obstacles, and escalating risks with proposed solutions.
  • Run effective team rituals such as sprint planning, retrospectives, standups, and reviews tailored to each team’s needs.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and maintain clear visibility into each engineer’s goals, performance, and career trajectory.
  • Participate in hiring loops by sourcing candidates, interviewing, calibrating against the hiring bar, and helping make offer decisions.
  • Contribute to quarterly and multi-quarter planning by translating roadmap goals into capacity models, surfacing dependencies, and flagging sequencing risks.
  • Maintain technical context by reading pull requests, joining architecture discussions, and escalating technical concerns.
  • Drive accountability for quality standards, including code review practices, test coverage, documentation, and incident follow-through.
  • Partner with product and project managers to align priorities, negotiate scope, and represent team capacity honestly.
  • Work with other engineering leaders on team structure, headcount planning, career leveling, hiring practices, and engineering-wide improvements.

Requirements

  • 4+ years managing software engineering teams of 5+ individual contributors in a product engineering environment.
  • Prior experience as a software engineer with enough depth to evaluate engineering quality, complexity, and technical risk.
  • Comfort using coding agents such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code as part of daily work.
  • Demonstrated track record of growing engineers’ careers and closing skill gaps through management.
  • Experience owning delivery commitments across multiple sprint cycles and recovering when plans change.
  • Strong technical judgment, including the ability to contribute meaningfully in architecture reviews.
  • Experience managing engineers in security-critical, reliability-critical, or infrastructure-adjacent software environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate remote-first and manage distributed teams effectively.
  • Strong written communication skills for a fully remote environment.
  • US work authorization is required, and comprehensive background checks are required for all employees.
  • Experience at a security-first company or in regulated industries such as critical infrastructure, defense, industrial control systems, financial services, or healthcare (preferred).
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, FedRAMP, or IEC 62443 (preferred).
  • Exposure to cloud-native infrastructure on AWS or Azure, Terraform, backend services in Python, TypeScript, or Go, and React/TypeScript frontends (preferred).
  • Experience improving release infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, or developer tooling (preferred).
