Description

  • Plan, write, and edit newsletters, announcements, and other communications for key stakeholders.
  • Develop clear, accessible, and motivating messaging tailored to counselors, members, and students.
  • Translate complex organizational priorities, higher education policy, or technical updates into compelling narratives.
  • Own editorial calendars and maintain messaging consistency across multiple platforms.
  • Analyze engagement metrics and audience feedback to identify communication gaps and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Communications & Marketing team and provide peer-review or guidance to align messaging across the department.
  • Manage multiple high-stakes deadlines and coordinate with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adapt messaging and priorities in response to changing organizational needs and feedback.

Requirements

  • Candidates must live in the United States.
  • Willingness to travel to attend two annual Common App retreats.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience.
  • Experience producing audience-specific communications such as newsletters, campaign emails, or announcements.
  • Familiarity with email marketing platforms, CRM systems, or digital publishing tools.
  • Strong collaborative mindset and ability to translate complex ideas into engaging narratives.
  • Experience with project planning and management.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced environment, including state government, federal government, or communications agency experience.
  • Knowledge of key issues in higher education, with non-profit, educational institution, education technology, or government affairs/public policy experience preferred.
