Description

  • Create packaging models and specifications using CAD and other design tools that meet ISTA standards such as 2A and 2B.
  • Design product labels that are visually appealing, informative, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and mentor packaging design engineers at contract manufacturing sites.
  • Coordinate cross-site packaging development efforts, including timelines, deliverables, and communication between internal and external teams.
  • Conduct prototyping and testing to validate packaging performance through drop tests, vibration tests, and related evaluations.
  • Establish packaging design best practices and technical guidelines across multiple contract manufacturers.
  • Review and approve packaging designs submitted by contract teams and provide feedback on performance, sustainability, and cost targets.
  • Facilitate training and knowledge sharing on new materials, technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Resolve technical issues and escalate blockers to keep packaging programs on track.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between internal stakeholders and contract packaging teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve quality, cost, assembly, and manufacturability in packaging designs.

Requirements

  • Fluent in Mandarin and able to communicate technically in English with USA-based design teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience as a Packaging Design Engineer.
  • At least 5 years of CAD experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of packaging materials, including corrugated materials, plastics, pallets, and sustainable alternatives.
  • Ability to self-start and manage multiple projects and designs simultaneously.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work outside of your comfort zone.
  • Ability to travel within Asia to work face to face with contract manufacturers.
  • Experience implementing sustainable or green packaging strategies in a high-volume hardware or industrial product environment (preferred).
  • Experience collaborating with testing labs on drop, vibration, compression, and climatic tests under ISTA procedures (preferred).
  • Ability to analyze test results to identify failure points and optimize packaging for protection and cost-efficiency (preferred).
  • Knowledge of global environmental packaging regulations and labeling requirements, such as recyclability markings and material disclosures (preferred).
