Description

  • Lead Block’s US public policy and government relations strategy in support of the company’s mission and product growth.
  • Track and prioritize legislative and regulatory developments affecting payments, banking, digital assets, consumer protection, and financial inclusion.
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, congressional offices, government agencies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Develop policy narratives, thought leadership content, policy papers, and advocacy materials for diverse audiences.
  • Design and execute advocacy strategies, including direct engagement, coalition building, and participation in legislative and regulatory processes.
  • Partner with legal, compliance, product, and communications teams to align policy strategy with business objectives and manage regulatory risk.
  • Oversee policy materials, executive briefings, and leadership preparation for external engagement.
  • Manage a regional policy team and coordinate with external advisors, lobbyists, trade associations, and other partnerships.
  • Contribute to Counsel leadership team strategy, company priorities, and team development.
  • Represent Block’s portfolio of brands and help shape regulatory frameworks relevant to AI and financial innovation.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of public policy experience, with preference for experience in US government and the financial services and technology sectors.
  • 10+ years of experience managing policy teams, including budgeting, strategic planning, and career development.
  • Strong background in advocacy and public policy development related to global financial services issues and policies.
  • Demonstrated success leading high-performing policy teams and complex, multi-stakeholder advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong coalition-building skills across ideological and institutional lines.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity and make judgment calls in fast-moving, high-stakes situations.
  • Exceptional communication skills for translating complex regulatory and technical concepts for varied audiences.
  • Experience engaging with federal and state regulatory agencies such as FDIC, CFPB, OCC, FinCEN, SEC, and NYDFS or equivalents.
  • Experience in the intersection of technology, financial services, and public advocacy is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
