Description

  • Plan, prepare, and execute UAS missions in VLOS and BVLOS scenarios.
  • Serve as Safety Pilot during manual flight operations for fixed-wing and FW VTOL UAS.
  • Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and diagnostics on UAS platforms and ground control systems.
  • Operate, configure, troubleshoot, and manage Pixhawk and Cube Orange flight controllers and mission planning software.
  • Develop mission-specific risk assessments using MIL-STD-882E principles.
  • Maintain flight logs, technical records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, flight test, and project teams to improve UAS performance and operations.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA UAS regulations, especially Part 107 requirements.
  • Provide technical support and basic field maintenance or fault rectification to keep systems operational.
  • Mentor or train flight test operators and support a strong safety culture.

Requirements

  • Valid Part 61 and Part 107 pilot license.
  • Significant experience operating manual UAS or RC aircraft on fixed-wing and FW VTOL airframes.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing UAS operations.
  • Practical understanding of FAA Part 107 operations, including Operational Safety Cases and operational authorizations.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Pixhawk and Cube Orange flight controllers, including integration, setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of aviation paperwork, documentation, and record-keeping.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, and travel more than 50% of the time.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance.
  • Instrument and Commercial Rating (preferred).
  • 5+ years of developmental test experience (preferred).
  • 5+ years of RC flying experience (preferred).
  • Experience with fixed-wing VTOL UAS operations and multiple-air vehicle operations (preferred).
  • 5 years’ experience as a manual Safety Pilot for FW/MR UAS (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of rotary and fixed-wing UAS aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and system architectures (preferred).
  • Experience with other UAS flight controllers, ground control stations, or payloads such as LiDAR or advanced EO/IR sensors (preferred).
  • Background in aviation maintenance, electronics, or robotics (preferred).
  • Experience operating UAS in challenging environments such as maritime, mountainous, or urban settings (preferred).
  • Technical qualification in electronics, avionics, mechanical engineering, or a related field (preferred).
