Description

  • Plan, prepare, and execute UAS missions in VLOS and BVLOS scenarios while meeting mission and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as safety pilot and conduct manual flight operations for fixed-wing and fixed-wing VTOL UAS in complex multi-UAS environments.
  • Perform pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks and diagnostics on UAS platforms and ground control systems.
  • Operate, configure, and troubleshoot UAS systems using Pixhawk and Cube Orange flight controllers and related mission planning software.
  • Develop mission-specific risk assessments using MIL-STD-882E system safety principles.
  • Maintain accurate flight logs, technical records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, flight test, and project teams to provide performance feedback and support technology integration.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA Part 107 regulations and other applicable UAS operating requirements.
  • Provide technical support and basic field maintenance or fault rectification to keep UAS platforms operational.
  • Mentor or train less experienced operators and help develop safe systems of work for UAS operations.

Requirements

  • Valid Part 61 and Part 107 pilot license.
  • Significant experience operating manual UAS or RC aircraft on fixed-wing and fixed-wing VTOL airframes.
  • Demonstrable experience planning and executing UAS operations.
  • Strong understanding of FAA Part 107 operations, including Operational Safety Cases and operational authorizations.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Pixhawk and Cube Orange flight controllers, including integration, setup, configuration, troubleshooting, and operation.
  • Understanding of aviation paperwork and meticulous documentation and record-keeping practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, and travel extensively, potentially more than 50% of the time.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
  • Instrument and Commercial Rating preferred.
  • 5+ years of developmental test experience preferred.
  • 5+ years of RC flying experience preferred.
  • Experience with fixed-wing VTOL UAS operations and multiple-air-vehicle operations preferred.
  • 5 years of experience as a manual safety pilot for FW/MR UAS preferred.
  • Strong understanding of rotary and fixed-wing UAS aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and system architectures preferred.
  • Experience with other UAS flight controllers, ground control stations, or payloads such as LiDAR or advanced EO/IR sensors preferred.
  • Background in aviation maintenance, electronics, or robotics preferred.
  • Experience operating UAS in challenging environments such as maritime, mountainous, or urban settings preferred.
  • Technical qualification such as HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or related training in electronics, avionics, mechanical engineering, or a related field preferred.
