Description

  • Set and oversee CALDER’s strategic direction as a leading voice in K-12 education policy decisions.
  • Lead business development efforts, including grant proposals and relationship-building with funders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with policymakers and other current or prospective clients at the national and state levels.
  • Increase CALDER and AIR’s visibility by communicating the work through media and external channels.
  • Design and carry out large research projects, including managing large teams to execute them.
  • Mentor and provide feedback to staff to strengthen their ability to design and lead research projects.
  • Oversee the quality and technical rigor of deliverables and products.
  • Represent the portfolio of work to internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with AIR and Learning Supports leaders to ensure quality, identify cross-disciplinary opportunities, and expand organizational impact.

Requirements

  • PhD in economics, education, sociology, psychology, or a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience managing and conducting research, evaluations, and related work.
  • National reputation for research and evaluation expertise in education policy, demonstrated through publications, presentations, and service.
  • Frequent experience serving as a consultant and commentator in the media on education policy and evidence.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of K-12 education policy.
  • Experience overseeing research studies using a range of methodologies, including those that answer high-leverage questions for policymakers and educators.
  • Strong partnerships with, and extensive networks of, leaders in education research, policy, and practice.
  • Track record of winning competitive contracts and grants from federal, state, local, or foundation funders.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills at a senior or managerial level.
  • Proven ability to develop staff capacity in research design, methods, measurement, project management, client and partner relationships, and business development.
  • Commitment to AIR’s mission to generate evidence and apply data-driven solutions that expand opportunities and improve lives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating effectively with people at all levels.
  • Ability to produce concise, high-level summaries and briefings.
  • Ability to translate research methods and findings for non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to build a portfolio of research and/or policy projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing, conceptualizing, analyzing, and consulting.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.
  • Employment-based visa sponsorship, including H-1B sponsorship, is not available.
  • Depending on project work, qualified candidates may need to meet certain residency requirements.

Benefits

  • Remote work is available within the United States or from one of AIR’s U.S. office locations.
  • Annual salary range of $189,000 to $230,000 USD.
  • AIR’s Total Rewards Program is designed to reward staff competitively.
