Description

  • Support and provide legal advice to product, operations, design, and engineering teams throughout the product development and operations lifecycle on cutting‑edge and first‑impression legal issues.
  • Serve as the day‑to‑day legal partner for business teams to understand product roadmaps and provide pragmatic, strategic advice to minimize legal risk while advancing business interests across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Lead consensus building across legal teams and coordinate advice on multifaceted legal issues, including privacy, consumer protection, AI, intermediary liability, competition, anti‑discrimination, employment, marketing/IP, ecommerce, and payments.
  • Collaborate with Legal counterparts supporting other business units and global product legal teams to ensure consistent, globally‑aligned legal advice.
  • Draft clear and concise risk analyses, memoranda, disclosures, disclaimers, FAQs, terms of use, policies, and implement related processes.
  • Manage outside counsel on complex research and litigation matters with an eye toward driving business goals while controlling time and cost.
  • Support legal matters related to supply, sourcing, licensing, trust & safety, platform immunity, guest and host features, platform policies, customer support, and compliance with applicable regulations.

Requirements

  • JD with 9–12 years of relevant experience in law firms, governmental agencies, and/or in‑house legal departments.
  • Barred in a U.S. state (preferably California) or eligible to register as California Registered In‑House Counsel.
  • In‑house experience at a multinational, consumer‑facing technology company in a product counseling capacity is strongly preferred; previous product counsel experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying regulations and industry guidelines (e.g., consumer protection law, CDA 230, DMCA, E‑Commerce Directive, GDPR, CCPA, CPRA, CAN‑SPAM, DSA/DMA, employee misclassification, and other internet‑platform regulations).
  • Familiarity with legal issues across privacy, AI, intermediary liability, competition, anti‑discrimination, employment, marketing/IP, ecommerce, and payments.
  • Proven ability to balance legal risks with business strategy and make decisive, risk‑based decisions independently and under time pressure.
  • Rigorous analytical skills with the ability to condense complex legal advice into clear and succinct oral and written guidance; highly proactive and self‑sufficient.
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and work effectively with senior business and legal partners; adaptable to cultural differences and comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
  • Solid working knowledge of the Airbnb platform, evolving product lines, and the travel/consumer landscape; strong interest in the business.

Benefits

  • Base pay range: $208,000 — $253,500 USD (actual base pay dependent on experience and other factors).
  • Role may be eligible for bonus, equity, standard benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
  • US remote eligible (must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity); occasional office attendance or offsites as agreed with manager.
