Description

  • Own the technical strategy and roadmap for the ML Platform, including feature computation, model training infrastructure, and model serving at scale.
  • Lead and grow a team of engineering managers while staying closely involved in technical direction and partnering with individual contributors.
  • Continuously evolve the platform to support emerging AI and ML needs, including transformer-based models, GPU compute, and reinforcement learning.
  • Partner with ML modeling, product, and infrastructure leaders to accelerate Affirm's most critical machine learning initiatives.
  • Establish engineering excellence across reliability, observability, developer experience, and operational rigor.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing platform engineers.
  • Guide the design and operation of large-scale ML infrastructure that enables the company’s ML capabilities.
  • Navigate organizational complexity and drive platform decisions across multiple teams.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of industry experience in software and/or machine learning engineering.
  • Significant hands-on software engineering experience.
  • 4+ years of experience managing engineering managers.
  • Deep expertise in building and operating large-scale ML infrastructure such as feature stores, model serving systems, or training pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of data pipelines, data quality, and the impact of data on model behavior and platform design.
  • Fluency with modern ML concepts, including deep neural networks, transformer architectures, reinforcement learning, and large-scale GPU training and serving.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to reason from infrastructure details to architectural trade-offs.
  • Track record of building platforms that improve ML team productivity and impact.
  • Experience on the applied ML modeling side is a plus.
  • Experience navigating ambiguity and leading through organizational complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.

  • Base salary range of $260,000-$310,000 for CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT, or $232,000-$282,000 for all other U.S. states.
