Description

  • Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to stakeholders and clients on operational and strategic matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents, including commercial agreements, NDAs, service agreements, supplier and customer contracts, and leases.
  • Support work across practice areas such as corporate/commercial, employment, regulatory, disputes, compliance, privacy, procurement, governance, and property, depending on experience.
  • Manage external counsel and advisors, including matter strategy, budgets, and timelines.
  • Assess legal risk and recommend pragmatic mitigations aligned with business objectives.
  • Support dispute management, including early case assessment, correspondence, document preparation, settlement discussions, and litigation oversight where applicable.
  • Contribute to compliance programs, policies, and internal controls by monitoring regulatory updates and supporting implementation.
  • Maintain legal records, contract repositories, and matter documentation while ensuring confidentiality and proper information handling.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams such as HR, Finance, Procurement, Sales, and Operations to improve legal processes and decision-making.
  • Support governance activities, including board and committee documentation where relevant.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and help maintain consistent professional standards and quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD), or equivalent, is typically required for lawyer roles.
  • Admission as an Australian lawyer and a current or eligible practising certificate in the relevant state or territory for practising roles.
  • Relevant qualification and strong legal experience may be considered for legal operations, contracts, compliance, or specialist roles.
  • Typically 5–12+ years of progressive legal experience in-house and/or in private practice.
  • Demonstrated capability in one or more areas such as commercial contracts, corporate governance, employment, regulatory matters, disputes, compliance, privacy, or legal operations.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, stakeholder management, and risk-based judgement skills.
  • Familiarity with document management, contract lifecycle management (CLM), matter management, e-billing, and Microsoft 365, where applicable.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines, work independently, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
