Description

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions within the VA EHR ecosystem.
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code aligned with best practices.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical design decisions.
  • Implement APIs, integrations, and data processing components as needed.
  • Maintain the CDS Test Patient Management System by adding new use cases, conditions, and scenarios.
  • Develop VistA RPC patches to enable connectivity between the CDS platform and VistA.
  • Conduct peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across environments.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with product managers, architects, UX designers, and engineers on estimates and technical planning.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, DevOps workflows, production deployments, and root cause analysis.
  • Maintain and enhance existing products to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Identify and remediate technical debt and recommend process improvements.
  • Mentor junior developers and promote engineering best practices and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • 5–8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining enterprise or mission-critical systems.
  • Experience working on agile development teams.
  • Experience building products in the healthcare sector, including work with labs, panels, or vitals.
  • Proficiency in Python, React, and FastAPI.
  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills with the ability to break down complex technical problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • U.S. citizen status is required.
  • Experience supporting federal or regulated environments is preferred.
  • Technical experience with MUMPS and VistA RPC calls is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HL7 v2, FHIR, and VistA data structures is preferred.
  • Background in Lab Implementation Management (LIM) or deep knowledge of VA VistA record structure and process is a plus.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems is preferred.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools is preferred.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives or feature teams is preferred.
