Description

  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial data and content contracts, including research licensing, distribution, aggregation, and vendor agreements.
  • Advise internal stakeholders and senior executives on data/content rights, regulatory compliance, privacy, and commercial disputes.
  • Partner with Content, Sales, Marketing, Product, and other cross-functional teams to build a scalable legal framework.
  • Develop proposals, project plans, policies, and playbooks to support data and content procurement and distribution.
  • Manage and develop a small legal team to increase department output.
  • Monitor changes in global laws, regulations, and industry guidance affecting data, content, and financial research.
  • Provide legal and strategic business advice to align agreements with internal policies, processes, and risk standards.
  • Support the broader legal team on corporate and general legal matters as needed.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to, and good standing with, a state bar.
  • 8+ years of experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating content/data licensing agreements.
  • Experience advising on sell-side investment research and market data matters.
  • In-house experience at a broker-dealer, investment bank, or financial data provider.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property, financial data/research, compliance, financial regulation, privacy, and related laws.
  • Ability to negotiate commercial contracts including MSAs, Services Agreements, SOWs, SLAs, Data Licensing Agreements, Content Distribution Agreements, Order Forms, and NDAs.
  • Strong business acumen with a pragmatic, client-service-oriented mindset.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to support difficult positions calmly and patiently.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders across backgrounds.
  • Remote-based role in the United States, with a strong preference for the East Coast.
